href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/alfa-romeo/">Alfa Romeo, Humor

After the culture clash between the Americans at Chrysler
and the Germans at Daimler
during the bad old DCX

days, there has been concern that the latest European occupation of Auburn Hills could lead to similar friction. Granted, Fiat
is not Mercedes-Benz
, but Italian sensibilities can be quite dissimilar from those of most Detroiters.

So count us doubly impressed to happen upon this video, featuring an Alfa Romeo
Giulietta
"playing hockey." Never mind that it was Alfa's U.K. group that put together this amusing video to highlight the Giulietta's All Weather traction mode. We'd like to think that somebody from Hockeytown weighed in with some encouragement for the idea.

In fact, now that we think about it, maybe this whole hockey-playing-car thing could be the next extension of Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" campaign
. The new Dodge Dart
is all Giulietta underneath, and the Chrysler 300 SRT8
would make one heck of a goon...

If you've been enjoying Forza 4

on your Xbox 360 but have been clamoring for some new cars to try out, you'll want to mark February 7 on your calendar. That's when Microsoft is releasing the new American Le Mans Series

The February ALMS Pack includes some serious race machinery, including the Audi R18 TDI
that reigns as current champion at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Mazda 787B
that was the last Japanese car to win the race back in 1991, the new Panoz Abruzzi
"Spirit of Le Mans", and the iconic 1986 Audi
Sport Quattro S1. Also included are the Platinum Motorsport Bentley Continental GT

Cobra R, the Holden HSV GTS
and, for when a little hatchback is called for, the Volkswagen Polo GTI
.

The downloadable content pack is included in the Forza Motorsport 4 Season Pass, or can be bought for 560 MS Points (worth $7).
Report: Dodge working on 300-hp Dart SRT4

What happens when a Dodge
meets an Alfa Romeo
? The Dart

, that's what happens. But as promising as Auburn Hills' new economy sedan is, what we're really looking forward to is what Ralph Gilles and company over at the SRT
division can cook up. And the folks over at Motor Trend
think they've got a pretty good idea of what to expect.

For the Dart SRT4, Dodge could go one of two ways: turbocharging the existing Tigershark 2.0-liter four, or shoehorning in the new all-aluminum 1.8-liter turbo four from Alfa Romeo

. Since the latter would likely push the Dart SRT4's price up beyond $30,000 and competitive levels, the smarter money's on the former. But in order to compete with the likes of the Ford Focus ST
and Subaru WRX STI
- and outshine the 285-horsepower Caliber SRT4
it succeeds - we could be looking at nearly 300 horses under the hood.

Couple that with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission (we'd still hope for a manual), upgraded rolling stock, brakes and suspension, and a more aggressive aero pack and we could be looking at one very mean pocket rocket indeed.
<a

Did someone really order this Alfa Romeo 8C with a General Lee paint scheme?

Yup. Someone has apparently taken it upon themselves to slather the slinkiest of Alfa Romeo
models with the bright orange paint and stars and bars of the General Lee
from The Dukes of Hazzard
. Why? Because if you have enough cash to park an 8C Competizione
in your expansive garage, you can paint it in whatever livery you damn well please. Details are scarce, but our source says the coupe is real, and it rocks the appropriate "01" numbering on each door. We're hoping there's a horn capable of whistling Dixie under the hood as well, and we'll award bonus points if the doors are welded shut and there's a cage inside.

We'd love to know who ordered up this particular color combination. Our source, John S., says this photo was clicked near Balocco in Northern Italy (presumably adjacent to Alfa's test track facility there), but for now, we'll just content ourselves by wondering how you say "Daisy Duke" in Italian.
<a

Report: Chrysler planning Dodge Avenger successor after all?

    href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/chrysler/">Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Alfa Romeo

Don't cry for the Dodge Avenger
just yet. According to USA Today
, Chrysler
is set to introduce new midsized sedans to replace both the Chrysler 200

and the much-maligned Dodge Avenger. The vehicles will be built on a version of the same platform that underpins the 2013 Dodge Dart
. That news runs contrary to word that the Avenger is headed to the great scrap pile in the sky
after the current generation runs its course. Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne
is looking to shore up the company's small car efforts and spread the cost of platform development across as many models as possible.

Marchionne also made mention of introducing a new hybrid hatchback under the Chrysler 100 nameplate, though details are scarce at the moment.

USA Today
reports the same platform may be used for the next-generation Jeep Liberty
and Compass

, which are slated to debut sometime in 2013. Marchionne says both vehicles will be trail-rated and capable of standing up to the kind of abuse Jeep
buyers demand. Even so, the CEO says the vehicles will have their "origins in the architecture of a sports car."

Speaking of sports cars, Marchionne also made it clear Alfa Romeo

is still coming to the States, though the Italian brand's strategy has shifted somewhat. The models headed to the U.S. market will be lightweight and powered by a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine offering 300 horsepower. Certainly sounds good to us.
<a

Detroit: 2013 Dodge Dart is half a Chrysler, hAlf a Romeo for $15,995

Dodge
just pulled the covers off its new compact sedan, the Dart
. We're impressed. With an official base price of $15,995, the Dart (pardon us, please, just this once) seems to be a bulls eye to the heart of the small car segment in the United States.

We're eager to spend a few minutes behind the wheel of this Italian/American conglomeration, since its specifications appear to put it at the forefront of a hotly contested segment. For starters, there's a very impressive available seven-inch TFT display to replace the standard analog gauges, which is paired with an 8.4-inch touch screen panel at the center of the dash. The digital cluster is customizable by the driver with two different base display options, along with nine more menu functions.

As far as styling goes, nobody is going to confuse the Dart with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta
on which it's based. There's the expected crosshair front grille, though it's smaller and better integrated with the overall flowing design ethos. Such impressions are helped by the massaging done to Fiat's platform; the Dart is stretched in all directions compared to its Alfa-badged sibling.

That enlarged platform means the Dart is rather well-endowed when it comes to interior space with a total of 97.2 cubic feet. Dodge has managed to squeeze in 35.3 inches of rear legroom, which it says is more than the mid-size Hyundai Sonata
sedan. Buyers looking to customize their rides will be pleased to see 14 available interior and trim combinations.

Power will come from one of three powerplants, two of which are naturally aspirated - a 2.0-liter Tigershark inline-four producing 160 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, and a 2.4-liter Tigershark four with 184 hp and 171 lb-ft. Naturally, our attention is focused on the 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir four with 160 horses and 184 lb-ft, which we suspect will be the most fuel efficient engine of the three. Transmissions at launch will all have six speeds: one manual, one automatic and a dual-clutch gearbox with the turbo mill. A nine-speed automatic
is in the works for 2013.

Check out the complete press release after the break, and there's a full gallery of live images from the unveiling along with the stock shots.
Continue reading 2013 Dodge Dart is half a Chrysler, hAlf a Romeo for $15,995

Official: 2013 Dodge Dart is the Neon of the future [w/video]

    href="http://www.autoblog.com/category/chrysler/">Chrysler, Dodge

Let's be honest: Useful as the Dodge Caliber

was, it didn't quite fit into the C-segment as nicely as the plucky little Neon
that came before it. But now the Caliber is dead, and the Chrysler

Group has a big ol' Italian parts bin to work from in order to create its new crop of cars, the first of which is this, the 2013 Dodge Dart

. Not only is this an all-new entry into an extremely competitive segment, it's the first bit of fruit from the Chrysler-Fiat
partnership, and from the looks of things, it's going to be good.

Compared to the Giulietta, the Dart has a four-inch-longer wheelbase and a slightly wider track.

Those of you paying close attention will know that the Dart is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta
, though we commend Chrysler's design team for giving the Dodge

sedan an appearance that's anything but Italian. We've had the chance to check out a loaded-up Dart R/T in person - the trim you see in these photos - and it's a decidedly handsome thing. Compared to the Giulietta, the Dart has a four-inch-longer wheelbase and a slightly wider track, and we like the aggressive, planted stance. The low nose and upward slope to the beltline are very reminiscent of the last Neon, especially the SRT4, and while we haven't had a chance to see a base model with the body-colored grille and smaller wheels, we think the design will work well on the full range of models. The 2013 Dart will be available in SE, SXT, Rallye, Limited and R/T trims. And for those of you who like the full-LED wraparound taillamps of the Charger
, you'll be happy to see them here on the Dart, as well.

Three engines will be available when the Dart launches later this year. The base powerplant is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Tigershark inline-four producing 160 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. Next up is an available 2.4-liter naturally aspirated Tigershark four with 184 hp and 171 lb-ft, and topping the range is a 1.4-liter turbocharged MultiAir four with 160 hp and 184 lb-ft. A six-speed manual transmission is available with all three engines, a six-speed automatic is optional on the 2.0- and 2.4-liter mills and a six-speed dual-clutch box can be had on the 1.4-liter turbo unit. Fiat/Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has stated that a nine-speed automatic is in the works

, though that won't drop until sometime in 2013. As for fuel economy, Chrysler has been quick to boast a 40 mile-per-gallon rating, but that's CAFE
, and the final EPA numbers should be somewhere in the mid-30s. Respectable stuff. And considering that the Dart uses a slightly modified version of the Giulietta's European suspension setup with a new electronic steering rack, all that power will hopefully be put to the ground with proper poise.

A nine-speed automatic is in the works, though that won't drop until sometime in 2013.

There's big news inside the Dart, too, with Chrysler's "second-generation" interiors. We've already seen vast cabin improvements in the latest crop of 2011 and 2012 models, and after spending limited time inside a pre-production Dart, we came away without complaints about fit and finish, comfort or overall quality. We've shown you the Dart's interior
before, complete with things like an illuminated instrument panel surround, 8.4-inch touchscreen UConnect interface, and reconfigurable seven-inch screen inside the gauge cluster. The red/black motif seen here is pretty cool, but we're actually big fans of the gray interior with the "citrus peel" accent lighting. If you get a chance, definitely check it out.

The 2013 Dodge Dart makes its official debut later this morning at the Detroit Auto Show

, with the first round of cars hitting dealerships in June. Pricing and final fuel economy numbers will be announced closer to the on-sale date, but for now, follow the jump for the complete details in Chrysler's press release, as well as a video showing the new Dart in action.
Continue reading 2013 Dodge Dart is the Neon of the future [w/video]

Chrysler's slow striptease
of its pivotal new Dodge Dart sedan
has apparently gone on longer than the Internet can stand, because the embargo has started to break, giving us these full-bleed images and video of the handsome new C-segment sedan.

Revealed here in aggressive R/T guise and Limited trim (the white model), the Dart appears attractive and well-balanced to our eyes, looking almost like the Dodge Neon
never stopped being developed. That might sound like a slam to some readers, but the Neon was a quick and entertaining small car in its heyday, with buoyant looks and attitude to spare. At a glance, the Dart appears to capture some of that energy but add in heaping helpings of much-needed refinement.

Chrysler has already promised a range of powertrains for the Dart, including three different engines and a trio of transmissions (including an optional nine-speed automatic
!). Power will come from the automaker's range of new Tigershark
small-displacement engines, including a 2.0-liter, 16-valve four, a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo and a 2.4-liter MultiAir.

The Dart's underlying platform is expected to be a much-massaged version of the chassis underpinning the Alfa Romeo Giulietta
, with 68 percent of its wider and longer architecture comprised of high-strength steel.

We'll know more when the silk comes off this Dodge
at the Detroit Auto Show in just a couple of days. For now, check out our high-res gallery and see the B-roll video after the jump.
that Forza 4
's Jalopnik DLC pack is heading to the track starting January 3. The Jalopnik DLC is chosen by the editors of Jalopnik.com, and has become something of a tradition in Forza games. The pack includes ten new cars (including your dad's 1970 Alfa Romeo Montreal) for a cool 560 Microsoft Points ($7.00), or free for season pass holders.
Official: Chrysler 300 gets even cushier with new Luxury Series

Despite major improvements, public perception still lingers that most American luxury sedans don't quite approach the level of refinement and equipment offered by their imported competitors. And so it follows that Chrysler
models fall shy of Lincoln
and Cadillac
, especially because their pricing is less dear. But the latest announcement from Auburn Hills aims to close that perception - and pricing - gap ever so gently.

Whereas in the past, the Pentastar automaker may have tried to sell the buying public on terms like "Corinthian leather" to sell their luxury automobiles, today, all it has to do is call up its friends (read: corporate overlords) in Italy to get some top-quality Potrona Frau leather (usually found in Maserati
and top-of-the-line Alfa Romeo
models) and hand-sanded wood trim sent over. The new-for-2012 Chrysler 300
Luxury Series is visually distinguished as well by "platinum-chrome" trim on the grille, door mirrors and handles, plus 20-inch polished wheels and all the bells and whistles Chrysler can muster. Starting at $40,125, it's also a good bit less expensive than other luxury cars its size cars with similar trappings.

Couple that with what Chrysler claims is the first eight-speed automatic transmission offered on a domestic luxury sedan and available all-wheel drive, and the 300 Luxury Series could just make luxury import buyers swing by their local Chrysler dealership for a closer look. Short of that, have a look at the high-res images in the gallery and the press release after the jump for a closer look.
Continue reading Chrysler 300 gets even cushier with new Luxury Series

We like us some matte finish here at Autoblog, but we have to admit that the usual smattering of matte black vinyl wraps leave us a bit in the dark. That's why our eyes pop just a little wider when we see a car that cuts the glare but keeps the palette. That's also why the storied brands of the Fiat group are getting top marks in our books these days.

At the 2010 Geneva Motor Show
, the group's top brand Ferrari
showed off a concept 599

with regenerative braking and a delicious matte green finish. The following year at the same venue, Alfa Romeo
lifted the veil on the tempting 4C Concept

in a beautiful shade of matte red. And at the Bologna Motor Show earlier this month, their sister brand Maserati
showcased this special GranTurismo
in matte blue.

The car in question is a unique GranTurismo S Limited Edition exclusive to the Italian market, limited to only twelve examples to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification. It also packs carbon spoilers front and rear, as well as carbon side mirrors and door handles, with matte black side skirts and headlamps, and black 20-inch rims with polished aluminum brake calipers. Check it out in the press release after the jump and the high-res images in the gallery for a closer look.
Continue reading Maserati hits the matte with exclusive GranTurismo S Limited Edition

Report: Abarth working up new sports car separate from Alfa 4C

How many sports cars can one automotive group offer? Just ask the people at Volkswagen
, whose various divisions - Lamborghini
, Bugatti
, Porsche
, Audi

- churn them out like you and I would write Christmas cards. (Or Hannukah cards, anyway.) And the Fiat
group is right behind their German counterparts, with Ferrari
and Maserati
keeping the upper crust of the market satisfied, and now Alfa Romeo
and Abarth
filling a more accessible - but potentially no less exciting - niche.

Recently we brought you a progress update on the Alfa Romeo 4C
, a concept mid-engine sports car that's now apparently been green-lit for production. In the ruminations of its potential roadworthiness, there was speculation that Abarth could get a version of its own. But those rumors have existed for longer than the 4C concept, and will now appear to outlast it as well.

According to the latest reports, Abarth is pitching a project that would see it develop its own sports car. But while the 4C would be priced similarly to a Porsche Boxster
or Nissan 370Z
, the Abarth would be positioned lower - maybe at the Mazda MX-5
or the new Subaru BRZ
/Scion FR-S
/Toyota GT-86
. It would also likely be front-drive, with between 200 and 250 horsepower, and draw its inspiration from the 1968 Abarth Scorpione pictured at right.

Whether it comes to fruition or not remains to be seen - not to mention its potential arrival in North America - but the prospect of another Italian sportscar isn't something we'd turn down.
<a

Report: Dodge Caliber euthanized

According to The Detroit News
, the Dodge Caliber
has finally stumbled out of production.

When the Caliber first rolled onto the scene for the 2007 model year, we didn't quite know what to make of it. Replacing the long-serving Neon
, the Caliber sported polarizing styling, available all-wheel drive and a taller-than-average ride height. To some, it looked like an aggressively styled tonic to the frankly outdated and somewhat cutesy Neon, while others remained suspect of the car's quasi-SUV aesthetic and intrinsic goodness.

It didn't take long for the reviewers to pile on, however. Pundits argued that the Dodge

delivered a lackluster driving experience thanks to an unsorted chassis co-developed with Mitsubishi

, an unlovable Jatco-sourced CVT and a coarse interior that was later freshened but never truly fixed. In the end, the doubters appear to have won out, as the Belvidere, Illinois-built compact garnered little critical or popular praise. While the Caliber opened to reasonably strong sales traffic, yearly totals quickly collapsed despite steep discounting and the introduction of a powerful SRT-4 performance variant
.

As part of its arrangement with new parent company Fiat
, Chrysler
has developed the Alfa-Romeo-based Dart

as the Caliber's replacement, and expectations are running high ahead of its Detroit Auto Show

debut next month. The Dart will need to be excellent, as it faces a veritable murderers' row of competitors, ranging from strong new models like the Chevrolet Cruze
, Ford Focus
and Hyundai Elantra
to well-sorted mainstays like the Mazda3
- not to mention perennial sales darlings including the Toyota Corolla
and Honda Civic
.
<a

An Italian driver was stopped by astonished police in the southern city of Bari on Saturday when they saw him speaking on two phones with a handset in each hand and no control of the wheel.

Asked to explain his actions, the 43-year-old driver of an Alfa Romeo 166 saloon car said he was speaking to his wife when his mother called and he could not hang up on either of them, the Corriere Della Sera daily reported.

The man -- a professional truck driver -- made matters worse when he admitted that he frequently spoke on two handsets while on work trips.

Report: Alfa Romeo 4C speeds into production with £45,000 price tag

Imagine your dream car. What might it include? Lightweight carbon-fiber construction, high-tech engine behind the seats, legendary Italian badge on the nose.... The thing is, that usually means a big fat price tag that runs well into the six figures, if not seven. But while this latest Italian sports car is set to include all those ingredients, its price point is set decidedly lower.

We're talking about the Alfa Romeo 4C

, the nimble-looking little number that debuted in delicious matte red at the Geneva
show last year, and in liquid-metal finish in Frankfurt
just a few months ago. Rumors have been circulating of its imminent production ever since its debut, but now the blokes over at Top Gear
say that have the final details on good authority.

According to the report, Fiat
has crunched the numbers and figured out how it can produce the 4C while neither breaking the bank nor spoiling the formula. And so the supercar is set to begin testing in the new year and hit the market in the next. And the price? £45,000, according to TG

, which equates to about $70K at today's exchange rates. To put that into perspective, consider that is the same starting price in the British market as the Porsche Cayman S
- a model which starts here at $62K.

The Cayman is an ambitious target, but the 4C promises to be both smaller and lighter. A new direct-injection turbo four will drive 230 horsepower to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch gearbox for a 4.5-second sprint to sixty, but is tipped to yield more powerful versions with as much as 300hp on tap and even a roadster version later on.

That last bit promises to be easier to pull off thanks to the carbon-fiber tub - engineered by Dallara

- to which aluminum sub-frames will be attached front and rear. The Italian chassis constructor is best known for its racing cars, but also developed the KTM X-Bow

, which could in and of itself give us the best idea of what to expect if and when the 4C assumes the place originally reserved for the 8C Competizione
in finally heralding Alfa's return to the North American market.
<a

We've seen Romeo Ferraris

tune all manner of vehicles, but oddly none from the automaker with which it shares the first part of its name. That's all changing, but not with a current Alfa Romeo

model. For their latest project, RF has turned its attention to the recently discontinued Alfa Romeo Brera
.

Long considered one of the most beautiful designs mired by a substandard chassis, the Brera went out of production over a year ago. But to give it one last swan song, Romeo Ferraris has teamed up with venerable Alfa tuning firm Autodelta
. Together, they've given the Brera's 3.2-liter V6 a supercharger, intercooler, custom exhaust and remapped ECU to boost power up by 97 horsepower for a more substantial 353 hp. That's tipped to drop the 0-62 time down to five seconds and the top end up to 162 mph.

Naturally a full body kit is also part of the package, as is an adjustable suspension and (we would hope) upgraded brakes as well. A fitting goodbye to one of the best-looking cars ever to grace the roads - and one that will hopefully keep it on them for years to come.
<a

Chrysler

left a few fans scratching their heads when the company chose to call its new compact car the Dart

. Previous rumors had hinted to the possibility of the resurrection of the Hornet
name, but the sporty moniker was nowhere to be found when Dodge
showed off a few teaser photos of the Alfa Romeo-based sedan. According to Automotive News
, the company built 3.3 million Dart models between 1960 and 1976, and there was a time when nearly every block in the country had at least one Dart sitting on the corner - that kind of hard-earned brand awareness is hard to pass up.

To its fans, Darts were known as affordable, tough-as-nails economical transportation. In many ways, they were some of the longest-lasting vehicles to roll out of Chrysler factories before the company's quality implosion of the late '70s and '80s. Of course, the automaker's naming decision has its detractors, too - those who think Chrysler is taking a risk by exhuming an old moniker that many associate with dowdy, frills-free motoring.

Italy offers no shortage of mid-engined supercars: Ferraris
, Lamborghinis
, Paganis
... even Alfa Romeo
and Maserati
have joined in on the action here and there. Faralli & Mazzanti
may not have ranked among them until now, but its latest project has them joining these exotic ranks.

Dubbed the Mugello (after the famous Italian race track), F&M's latest project follows such front-engined creations as the Antas and the Vulca

- both rare birds in their own right. Little in the way of details followed along with the four teaser images (presented here in original and lightened versions), but we're told to expect a production run of just five examples, ensuring exclusivity and an assuredly high price tag.
<a

Dodge
might have teased us with a few images and some initial powertrain details
on the 2013 Dart
, but Fiat
and Chrysler
CEO Sergio Marchionne has provided even more in an interview with Reuters
.

According to Marchionne, the Dart is one piece of a larger puzzle for Chrysler
in 2013, and the all-new Dart - based off a widened and stretched Alfa Romeo Giulietta
- will hit 40 mpg thanks to a host of new engines and transmissions.

As previously reported
, the turbocharged 1.4-liter MultiAir fitted to the Fiat 500 Abarth
will grace the top of the Dart range, but Dodge also plans to fit modified versions of the 2.0 and 2.4-liter World Gas Engine, comically rebranded as the Tigershark.

When the Dart debuts, a Fiat-sourced six-speed dual-clutch transmission will feed the front wheels, but later in 2013 Dodge will reportedly offer a nine-speed automatic gearbox supplied by the ZF Group and manufactured in South Carolina. ZF officials claim fuel economy will be boosted between 10 to 16 percent over the dual-clutch 'box, and that should put it handily in the 40 mpg range.

And that last bit is important, as Fiat will receive its final five percent of Chrysler stock from the feds when it produces a vehicle with a 40-mpg rating.
<a

Don't call it a Hornet
. Dodge

has released a slew of shadowy teasers for its new compact sedan, the 2013 Dodge Dart. The company is planning a slow reveal, with snippets of the four-door's exterior and interior trickling out between now and the vehicle's full unveil at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show

. Specifics are still murky at the moment, though we do know Dodge will grace the 2013 Dart with a variety of engine options, including a turbocharged version of the 1.4-liter four-cylinder Multiair engine found in the Fiat 500
. If the Fiat 500 Abarth
is any indication, that means we're looking at somewhere around 160 horsepower.

The 2013 Dodge Dart makes use of the same bones as the beautiful Alfa Romeo Giulietta

, though the chassis has been both stretched and widened to accommodate the wider britches of American buyers. Chrysler
says that a full 68 percent of the vehicle's architecture is comprised of high-strength steel, which means the 2013 Dart should retain much of the rigidity that's made the Giulietta a favorite among buyers and critics alike in the EU.

We're plenty excited to get our hands on the 2013 Dodge Dart to see how it stacks up against the likes of the Chevrolet Cruze
, Ford Focus
, Honda Civic
and Hyundai Elantra

among other winners in the segment. Hit the jump for the full press release and then mosey on over to the car's official teaser site

Alfa Romeo

test driver Terry Grant has picked up a few records in his day. The hot shoe has picked up a total of 19 world records during his time behind the wheel, and now he can add one more: Grant has taken to the Alfa Romeo Mito
to become the man to pop the most water balloons using a vehicle. The Italian automaker crafted a massive version of its iconic logo from a staggering 2,500 balloons and then unleashed Grant on the finished product in a Mito Quadrifoglio Verde. Fortunately Alfa fans, the company trained more than a few lenses on the stunt for some excellent slow-motion action.

Pointless? Probably, but we're never ones to shun a video of an attractive European hatchback sliding around on a skid pad in slow motion. Of course, seeing all those water balloons makes us miss summer in a powerful way. Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself, as well as the full press release.
Continue reading Watch a stunt driver pop 2,500 water balloons with an Alfa Romeo Mito

DCH lands 15m Alfa Romeo and Chrysler UK ad account

DCH picked up the work without a pitch, and will now oversee all of the car company's integrated advertising, creating campaigns to promote both existing models and new launches.

Alfa Romeo, which spends £8 million on UK advertising, according to Nielsen, and Chrysler, which spends around £7 million, have both recently worked with agencies on a project basis. These have included Cogent Elliott, Swarm, EMO and DCH.

Private Health Insurance

Chrysler's most recent retained agency was Leo Burnett, which landed the car brand's advertising account in March 2010. Alfa Romeo has not held a retained advertising agency for a number of years.

Report: Next-gen Dodge Viper will debut in April at New York Auto Show

The Dodge Viper

has been absent for just one model year, but the natives are restless. With little concrete information out there about the next generation Viper, and Dodge
officials remaining tight-lipped
about their halo car, anything that surfaces is big news. So how about this for the biggest news yet: Chrysler's SRT Brand President and CEO Ralph Gilles has announced in the pages of Viper
magazine that the 2013 Viper will be introduced at the New York Auto Show
in early April.

So what might we expect to learn in the next four months? The biggest question is what kind of power the snake will be packing under its unnaturally long hood. Anything other than a V10 would be heresy, so Chrysler will likely bump the Viper's displacement up to 8.7 liters
, trumping every other Mopar mill to ever roll out of an engine plant.

The other canard

is that the Viper will be based on a sports car from the Fiat stable, like the Alfa Romeo 8C
or Maserati GranTurismo
. (One rumor even had the new Viper incorporating some sort of Ferrari-derived technology

.) Some of this conjecture may prove to be true in the end, but we hardly imagine that the Viper that gets unveiled in New York will be badge-engineered from anything European. Although it will most certainly add a further layer of refinement to the car, Chrysler
would be crazy to dilute the Viper's American muscle car spirit.
<a
Last month's delivery of DLC vehicles to Forza 4
may not have been enough for you. It was lacking something, perhaps? A certain whiff of editorial sponsorship? This month's pack should have you more than covered, with gaming site IGN teaming up with game developer Turn 10 and publisher Microsoft to release the "December IGN pack." Suddenly "November Speed Pack" sounds much more exciting than it did last month, eh?

Like November's DLC pack

, this month's will come with 10 cars from across the automotive spectrum, from a modded, modern Mazda RX-8, to a not-so-modded (or modern) Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio Verde. We'll let you guess which one of those goes faster! Also like November's pack, this one is gratis should you already own the game's $30 "Season Pass,"
or 560 MS Points ($7) otherwise.

Head past the break for a full list of the cars.
Continue reading Forza 4's next DLC features 10 new cars for $7, arrives on Dec. 6

Few rumors have circulated quite like the prospect of a new Alfa Romeo
Spider. While the previous Brera-based model

stands as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, dynamically speaking, most found it deeply flawed. But the Milanese automaker has long been rumored to be working on a more successful successor - even commissioning Pininfarina to create the sleek 2uettottanta

concept pictured above. Now, the latest word on European streets is that Alfa has got its sights set on the Mazda MX-5 Miata
.

That the next Alfa Spider will pack a turbocharged four-cylinder - likely the 1.7-liter unit from the Giulietta

- is pretty much a given, but in order to take on the venerable Miata, Alfa will need to cut its weight down considerably. And considering how heavy some of the marque's most recent products have been, the carbon-fiber 4C
concept notwithstanding, that'll prove to be no mean feat.
<a
One hundred years is a long time. But over the past couple, several automakers have marked their centenaries, among them Ford, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bugatti... and Chevrolet. The Bowtie brand has been marking its milestone birthday with a number of celebrations throughout the year, and doesn't plan on stopping any time soon.

Among the initiatives General Motors has planned for its mainstay brand is the launch of a documentary entitled Chevy 100: An American Story that debuts today at the Detroit Institute of Arts and will air coast-to-coast on Discovery's Velocity Channel on November 21.

The company will also erect a monument at Louis Chevrolet's birthplace of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland (who knew?), while Chevy owners in South Korea set the Guinness World Record for the creating the world's largest car logo out of their own automobiles.

As part of the celebrations, Chevrolet is also asking owners and enthusiasts like yourself to recall their favorite Chevy memories and experiences, which we invite you to share in our comments section. Don't forget to check out the history retrospective in the video (along with the press release) after the jump.

It's always a thrill to watch vintage racing, and that's doubly so when the cars are as varied as they are at the Goodwood Revival's 1960s Touring Cars class. In the video after the break, you'll see such classic machinery as the V8-powered Ford
Galaxie, 300-horsepower Jaguar
Mk II, Lotus
Cortina, Mini Cooper
(the original, naturally), Alfa Romeo
GT and BMW
1600.

How can a puny 1.6-liter Mini Cooper possibly compete with cars boasting twice as much power? That'd be by maintaining as much speed through the corners as possible, maximizing its weight advantage when braking and, of course, it never hurts to see some stellar driving talent behind the wheel.

We suggest you click past the break to get in on the vintage racing goodness. It's seven minutes of your life well spent.
Continue reading Goodwood Revival historic race showcases classic touring cars

Official: Alfa Romeo announces new 1.8-liter turbo with up to 300 horsepower

If you were to design your own engine for today's automotive market, what features would it include? Aluminum construction? Direct injection? Turbocharging? Variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust? Small displacement but a high output? Try all of these features and you're looking at the latest powerplant developed by Alfa Romeo
and Fiat
Powertrain Technologies.

The 1.8-liter turbo four leverages the latest developments in engine technology for an output as high as 300 horsepower while still meeting the most stringent emissions standards on the horizon (including the upcoming U.S. Tier 2 Bin 5 regulations, which bodes well for its eventual American application).

It's the engine that's expected to power the production 4C

sportscar, and given that it's designed to be mounted either behind the cabin or in front, longitudinally or transversely, it will surely find its way into other Alfas as well. (Maybe a couple of future Dodge
products, too) And when it does, we hope it won't lose much in output, because 300 galloping stallions and an Alfa Romeo badge on the nose sounds to us like a recipe for success.

Details in the press release after the jump, with fresh high-resolution images of the 4C in its original matte red finish added to the gallery for your viewing pleasure.
Continue reading Alfa Romeo announces new 1.8-liter turbo with up to 300 horsepower

The Fiat/Chrysler relationship has yet to spawn any post-marital offspring, but that will soon change. Automotive News

reports that one of those vehicles could come in the size and shape of a "baby" Jeep
that will be sold in Europe.

The B-segment Jeep, which we told you about
back in August, will also be badged as a Fiat
model. Two Fiat sources told AN that the vehicles will be built in Fiat's Minafiori plant in Turin, Italy, and there is a chance the vehicle could also be sold in the U.S.

Minafiori was originally pegged as the Euro plant of choice to build the successor to the Jeep Compass
and Patriot
models, but the Fiat sources say those plans have changed. The new plan reportedly calls for the Patriot/Compass replacement and an Alfa Romeo sibling to be built in the U.S.

A recent Fiat release revealed that the Minafiori plant will be rebuilt starting in 2012, and that a Jeep SUV will begin production in the second half of 2013.
<a

When we first caught wind of the Fiat
intention to get cozy with Chrysler

, our first thoughts leapt to the slew of sexy Italian compacts that could conceivably make their way to the states. Of all the hardware that could potentially be Americanized, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta

was the one hatch that had our loins stirring the most. Now our elite squad of spy photographers have nabbed a few photos of a four-door version of the hatch wearing a split crosshair grille. From the looks of things, these are full-production spec prototypes out for desert testing. The whispers kicking around the web lead us to believe that the car will be called the Hornet and should lock horns nicely with metal like the Ford Focus
.

To say that we can't wait to usher the Caliber
out the door is an understatement. Given that the compact segment has grown into a fiercely competitive slice of the market, Dodge needs hardware that can perform on style, efficiency and economy. Here's hoping the Hornet is up to the task.

While the vehicle in the image above was originally photographed with matte black vinyl covering its flanks, we've colorized the sheet metal to give us a better idea of what to expect from the sedan version of the car.
<a

Report: Fiat dealers irked by Alfa Romeo's delayed return to U.S.

<a

Like a kid forever awaiting the presence of his deadbeat dad at his birthday party, we've been promised the return of Alfa Romeo

to the United States so many times that we've stopped feeling disappointed when it is invariably "postponed" again. But that numbness isn't shared by Fiat

dealers across the country. Many of them are reportedly and understandably upset at the latest delay
of the brand's reintroduction to America.

Although the lion's share of the 102 Fiat dealers that have sprung up across the country (and 28 more to come by year end) have grown out of existing Chrysler

franchises, all have had to invest significantly in bringing Fiats to their showrooms. And while the 500
range has been selling well, it's the only model they have to offer. Though no explicit promises were made, many of these dealers were counting on receiving Alfa Romeo to fill their new showrooms.

Instead, the relaunch of the stoic marque has been delayed again. When it does finally arrive, the MiTo
hatchback is set to lead the charge together with the 4C
sportscar, followed by the Giulietta
five-door hatch. The Giulia
is set to replace the 159

, not next year as originally planned, but in 2014. And while plans for a Jeep

-based SUV have reportedly been scrapped, a new sedan is said to be in the works to succeed the long-gone 166
and share its platform with the next Maserati Quattroporte

. For our part, we won't be holding our breath any longer before we just blow out the candles and get on with things.
<a

Back in April, we told you
about rumblings that Alfa Romeo's triumphant return to the U.S. was pushed from Fall 2012 to sometime in 2013. Back then, the issues were related to styling, but now it looks like the European debt crisis may have more to do with the delays.

Automotive News
reports that Alfa Romeo
CEO Harald Wester told a group of financial analysts at the Frankfurt Motor Show
that Fiat

was scaling back its global expansion plans, with several models coming later than expected. The new plan calls for the low volume 4C
(above) to come mid-2013, followed by the redesigned MiTo
later in 2013. The original plan to re-introduce the Alfa Romeo brand to the U.S. also included plans for a mid-size SUV to be built at Chrysler's Toledo plant, but that vehicle has reportedly been canceled altogether.

Fiat's announcement comes one day after CEO Sergio Marchionne cited a dire outlook of the European debt crisis as a reason for the automaker to rethink some of its product launches. This isn't good news for anyone waiting patiently for the Alfa brand to head back to the U.S., but the bigger news could be that future Chrysler

product could be delayed as well. After all, Fiat plans to merge its platforms and technology with future Chrysler models, and that can't happen quickly if launches are being delayed.
<a

There were a lot of things to love about the 4C Concept
when Alfa Romeo
unveiled it - now half a year ago - at the Geneva Motor Show
. And one of them was its finish: Decked out in matte red, it was both flashy and understated at the same time.

A tough act to follow, then, so we were a little apprehensive when Alfa announced that it would bring the pint-sized sportscar to its Frankfurt Motor Show
stand, albeit in a different finish. But as we found on the show floor, the Milanese automaker didn't pull out the vinyl or spray it with just any color out of the Pantone swatch book.

Instead Alfa has given it a "fluid metal" finish (similar to the Alubeam finish on the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

) that looks like what ordinary metalwork dreams about when its on vacation - neither polished nor brushed, neither chromed nor varnished. Just bare metal, only nicer. See what we mean in the gallery of live images from the show floor.
<a
