Video: João Barbosa's wife no longer wonders what he does for a living

When you're young, no one tells you marriage is really about finding some one to have, hold and torture 'til death do you part. From playful infractions like forgetting whether your significant other hates pickles, onions or both to more serious matters like who uses more paper towels, matrimony puts a relationship and those parties involved into the world's most powerful pressure cooker. Even so, few of us get the chance to delight in the suffering of our significant others in quite the way Rolex Sports Car series driver João Barbosa does. The driver recently took his beautiful wife around Daytona International Speedway
in a two-seater Daytona prototype. At 185 mph.

Mrs. Barbosa doesn't appear to take to the experience all that well. Throughout the duration of six-minute video, it's difficult to tell whether the high-pitched wail is her screams or the whine of the race car's gearbox. Impressive. In fact, it's the most fun we've had watching a racer's wife get a peek into their husband's office since racer Riccardo Patrese's better half got a little animated in the passenger seat of a Honda Civic Type-R
a few years ago.

Hit the jump to check out the video for yourself, but just remember; what goes around comes around. Especially in marriage.
Continue reading João Barbosa's wife no longer wonders what he does for a living

You'll want to skip the next post if you haven't unwrapped the weekend's Rolex 24 at Daytona awaiting you on your (apparently very capacious) DVR. For the rest of you, the 50th running of the event that commences Speedweeks and the sports car racing season saw David trounce several Goliaths: the Ford

/Riley of Michael Shank Racing entry piloted by A.J. John Pew, Oswaldo Negri Jr., A.J. Allmendinger
and Justin Wilson crossed the line in first. Not only that, their sister MSR car finished in third a minute down.

A.J. Allmendinger was behind the wheel at the checkered flag, his leg cramps so severe that he had to be helped from the car. MSR has been at the Daytona 24 for nine years and this is the team's first victory, while it was Allmendinger's first win in any series (he also competes in NASCAR
with Penske Racing) - in six years.

They beat a bunch of drivers you're more likely to have heard of, with names like McNish, Montoya, Rahal, Franchitti and Tracy. The top five positions were filled out by the Starworks Motorsport Ford/Riley with Ryan Dalziel crossing the line in second, Juan Pablo Montoya driving the Chip Ganassi Racing BMW
/Riley across the line in fourth, and the Action Express Racing Chevrolet Corvette

- the first year for the Corvette in Prototype Class - in fifth. For the complete rundown of all winners in all classes, check out this link from USA Today

Official: A.J. Foyt hospitalized

Legendary driver A.J. Foyt

has been hospitalized after suffering complications from knee surgery. The 77-year-old Foyt had the surgery two weeks ago and was slated to serve as the grand marshal for the 50th anniversary of the Rolex 24 at Daytona
. Jackie Stewart stepped in to handle those duties in Foyt's place this weekend.

According to a spokeswoman, the driver had been up and walking around after the surgery, but had developed an infection this week. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Foyt expressed his remorse for missing the Rolex, saying, "I feel so bad that I let everyone down."

Meanwhile, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said that the track and everyone involved with the race wishes Foyt a quick recovery.

Foyt is a towering figure in racing circles. He remains the only driver in history to win the Indianapolis 500
, the Daytona 500
, the 24 Hours of Daytona
and the 24 Hours of Le Mans

. We wish him a speedy recovery. Click past the break for a quick statement regarding his hospitalization.

Katy Perry's Preacher Parents Rant Against Jews

By Radar Staff

Katy Perry's evangelical Christian parents made their first appearance, with their first sermons, since Russell Brand filed for divorce from their daughter, and it was a memorable one to say the least.

Speaking at the Church on the Rise in Westlake, Ohio, Keith Hudson told the congregation, "You know how to make the Jew jealous? Have some money, honey," reports Britain's The Sun. "You go to LA and they own all the Rolex and diamond places. Walk down a part of LA where we live and it is so rich it smells. You ever smell rich? They are all Jews, hallelujah. Amen."

The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012."

How SOPA Will Destroy The Internet

As you read this, please keep in mind that I say it all with a track record nearly 14 years of being proactive and having a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activity and network abuse on our system. We have great relationships with Law Enforcement Agencies both here in Canada and abroad. We are always helpful and (usually) happy to answer questions, and help LEA understand the complexities and nuances of the internet. We've had the good fortune to meet some really intelligent and clued in cybercrime units. We participate in numerous communities in combating net.abuse and cybercrime.

I finally got around to reading the text of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) today. While the ostensible intentions are to combat online piracy and the sale of counterfeit goods, the bad news is that the legislation contains elements which basically puts every single domain registered under generic TLDs under the authority of the United States Attorney General.

We have already seen in cases if the ICE domain seizures, improper takedowns and overreach resulting in the takedown of tens of thousands of websites when a single one was the target.

How does this affect you?

Our objections to SOPA are very similar to our objections to Verisign's recent proposal which contained overly broad takedown powers and could be used to assert US law (and "requests") on all domain holders internationally.

We consider SOPA far more pernicious because it is possibly to become US law, rather than a policy implemented by a private company (albeit one that holds a monopoly on large tracts of internet namespace).

SOPA differentiates between "domestic" and "foreign" domain names, but the definition of "domestic" basically includes all domains registered under any of the gTLDs (generic Top Level Domains), because their respective Registry operators are US-based entities:

(3) DOMESTIC DOMAIN NAME- The term `domestic domain name' means a domain name that is registered or assigned by a domain name registrar, domain name registry, or other domain name registration authority, that is located within a judicial district of the United States.

All domains under .com, .net, .org, and .biz are "assigned by" a domain name registry in the United States. Verisign, Public Interest Registry and Neustar respectively. Afilias is incorporated in Ireland, however they are operationally in the US. And at the end of the day, all domain names exist in namespaces assigned by ICANN, which is a California corporation.

So basically this means everything. Any domain, any TLD, anywhere, can be cutoff at the knees by the US Attorney General issuing a court order against a service provider, registrar or registry. (Although they may find it more difficult to assert beyond the generic TLDs. ICANN cannot for example, operationally takedown a domain inside some given ccTLD, the way Verisign or some other gTLD registry could simply yank any domain's nameserver records out of the rootzones.)

Perhaps for the scope of this discussion, only gTLDs are at risk. This means you can probably ignore all of this unless your domain is under com/net/org/biz/info, or you use a US-based registrar, service provider or your website is ever visited by anybody from the United States.

Where This Is Going.

If this becomes law, it's a short stretch from SOPA to NODA (No Online Dissent Anywhere) and if you think I'm a nutcase for saying so, I'd like to remind everybody what happened just over a year ago, when US politicians were tripping over themselves to shut down wikileaks (a royal fiasco in which this company was embroiled) and to this day, they have not been charged with a crime anywhere.

Many of the "dirty tricks" employed against Wikileaks would be enshrined on law under SOPA (and someday, NODA):

A requirement that service providers block access to offending domains, including that they stop resolving their DNS

Search engines to purge search results for offending domains

Payment processors to sever ties to offending domains

And they added an extra provision that it will be an offense to knowingly create a service or system to provide a workaround to a banned domain or host. So for example, they would no longer have to hassle Mozilla to remove that firefox plugin that let's you reach ICE blocked websites, it would be illegal to make it or distribute it.

While this is an Online Piracy law, it already contains additional "enhancements" under Title 2: Additional Enhancements to Combat Intellectual Property Theft:, namely:

SEC. 201. STREAMING OF COPYRIGHTED WORKS IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL LAW.

SEC. 202. TRAFFICKING IN INHERENTLY DANGEROUS GOODS OR SERVICES.

SEC. 203. PROTECTING U.S. BUSINESSES FROM FOREIGN AND ECONOMIC ESPIONAGE.

Where All This Ends

Even if ICANN is officially against SOPA (Former chairman Vint Cerf wrote a good letter opposing it), failure on ICANN's part to oppose SOPA would mean catastrophic failure in their mission of overseeing the namespace to the benefit of all stakeholders.

If this happens, there needs to be a serious conversation around a topic so incendiary, so heretical that I will probably become persona non-grata within domain policy circles for saying it, but I'm going to say it:

The Internet RootZone would have to be administered by a non-US Entity instead of ICANN.

The reason why is because the internet root is held together largely through two things:

Consensus

Convention

As all of the world's peoples, businesses and websites come increasingly under the jurisdiction and law of a single country, consensus will fragment. The internet root will have to be under the stewardship of an honest broker who can respect the rights of all sovereign interests as they relate to the internet.

Otherwise, it ends with a split internet root, if we're lucky. If not, it ends with a completely Balkanized one, because while it may not be the case now, as this escalates (and I suspect it will), it will pose intolerable risk to non-US entities of all stripes.

Already we get business from companies whose stated corporate IT policy is to not use US based servers to hold email or route web traffic. I'm not talking about torrent hosts, whistleblowers and fake Rolex vendors. We're talking large enterprise entities whose legal departments find even the theoretical legal ability for Homeland Security to monitor their corporate communications simply intolerable.

While I'm not complaining about the extra business, I still smell trouble on the horizon.

Porsche
has announced that it will continue development on its innovative 911 GT3 R Hybrid
, delivering a new third-generation model in 2012 in an effort "...to gain extra practical experience under racing conditions and make the hybrid drive even more efficient."

The rolling race laboratory, as the automaker prefers to call it, ran the 2011 season in second-generation trim. That version used a 470 horsepower gasoline-powered 4.0-liter flat-six to drive the rear wheels and 202 horsepower worth of electric motors to drive the front wheels - with electricity generated by a 36,000 rpm flywheel mounted on the passenger side of the cabin. With a curb weight of just 2,866 pounds and total system power of 672 horsepower, the all-wheel-drive Porsche GT3 R Hybrid 2.0 accelerated to 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds.

We drove Porsche's 911 GT3 R Hybrid 2.0
at the famed Estoril race circuit outside of Lisbon, Portugal, just last month. Despite the second-generation model being the answer to all of our enthusiast prayers, we assume Porsche will reduce the overall weight of the system, increase the duration of the boost and reduce the deafening noise level in the cabin. There's always room for improvement.

While we don't expect the 911 GT3 R Hybrid 3.0 to be there, Porsche's factory-supported teams kick off the 2012 season in 911 GT3 Cup cars at the Rolex 24 at Daytona in late January.
Continue reading Porsche approves development of third-generation 911 GT3 R Hybrid

Audi of America recently took delivery of a U.S.-customer-spec R8 LMS Ultra
meant for testing next month, and the gents at Quattroworld were able to get a picture of it. Being lighter, safer, and better balanced, the V10-powered racer with up to 570 horsepower is expected to outdo its multiple-title-winning predecessor.

It will be campaigned by APR racing in 2012. Although the stars-and-stripes outerwear doesn't look nearly as mean as just plain silver, the patriotic paint scheme could be good for shaving off a few tenths per lap when the winged coupe officially rolls out at the Grand-Am test days in January.

Head on over to Quattroworld

for more details on this car and some tidbits on Audi's racing program, including the outrageous revelation offered by an Audi engineer when asked how often they had to overhaul the engines: "I don't know, we never have had to rebuild one."
<a

It's not every day that we get to feast our eyes on a new Corvette
, and even if this isn't the much-anticipated C7
, well, at least this one is in the here and now. This 2012 Chevrolet
Corvette Daytona Prototype will race in the Grand-Am Road Racing Series
next season, making its competitive debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway on January 28.

"The 2012 Corvette Daytona Prototype was developed by a multifaceted effort involving Chevrolet, Corvette designers, Pratt & Miller and Grand-Am. Chevrolet also worked closely with chassis builders Riley, Coyote and Dallara," said Mark Kent, General Motors
Racing Director, in a statement.

Four teams will run the Corvettes, the No. 90 Spirit of Daytona Racing, No. 10 SunTrust Racing, No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing, and the No. 5 and No. 9 Action Express Racing teams. The new race car will participate in testing at Daytona on Wednesday, Nov. 16.
Inside Secure announces NFC chips to help distinguish knockoffs from the real thing

      href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/14/inside-secure-announces-nfc-chips-to-help-distinguish-knockoffs/">

If you can't tell if a Rolex or a knockoff Prada bag is fake, your NFC-enabled
smartphone will be able to. Toking on a long-standing problem with counterfeiting, French company Inside Secure has released the Vault150 security module, a NFC-based chip that can be embedded into any product a retailer might wish to have authenticated by prospective buyers. This could become as easy as literally embedding the chip, as NFC chips require no power source, can collect RF energy from an NFC reader such as a smartphone and complete an authentication request for a potential buyer.

For more intricate products where the chip might have to be buried deeper, Inside Secure has also offered several antenna options that allow the chip to be placed well within an item and still communicate with an NFC reader. In cases where a module needs to be embedded in items like a bottle of wine or pair of shoes, the chip can use a slew of voltage, frequency or temperature change sensors to sense if someone has tried to alter the chip's information and return a warning from there. Along with authentication purposes, the devices could also ping a shopper's handset (in addition to doing cool things like opening doors

) when they came within a certain range of a product, informing them as to the savings they might be about to pass by. Final pricing and availability has yet to be announced and there's no guarantee that this will spot every fake, but it'll probably be better at the task than the current champ (yes, Chumlee).
Continue reading Inside Secure announces NFC chips to help distinguish knockoffs from the real thing

Will Google Search Replace Domain Names?

The growing notion among big advertising agencies and brand marketers is that as search engines find answers instantly, there's no real need to enter a domain name in the browser and therefore domain names are far less important. They're absolutely right. Why would you type www.rolex.com when you can simply enter 'Rolex' and be there before you blink?

But where they are seriously wrong is when you enter anything like 'Interlink' 'Pronet' 'National Trust' 'Premier Traders' or 'United Manufacturing', uncontrollable citations will gush out from every corners of the world. This debate originates from a lack of understanding of corporate nomenclature; usability of a name in relation to 'precise-search-ability' v/s 'open-search-ability.'

Often corporations mistakenly believe that their name is the only 'one powerful name identity'. Example, The United Manufacturing & Distribution Chicago Limited is convinced that they are 'United Manufacturing' while customers refer to them as UMDC to avoid a long descriptive name, and often they are called UMDC Chicago to differentiate themselves from other city locations in Atlanta, Kansas and Baltimore, their domain is www.unitedmfgdistributionchicago.com, as 'united manufacturing' was already gone, their stock symbol is UMAND.

Now try to find them on e-commerce, as every name combination buries them in thousands of citations. Across the world among the established business communities such clusters of multiple names are a common scenario. None of these names show up on the top of a search page. After all a very miniscule number of businesses in the world have a single globally workable distinct name identity?

If businesses around the world are already spending USD 400 billion annually to keep their name identities afloat so why do the largest majority of names still lost in the fathom? Google's algorithms and Ad words trawl at the bottom but good names pop up and work well with ad words and other pay per click models. The rest stay at the bottom.

Let's examine the three types of searching.

First, someone enters 'footwear'. Thousands of citations pop-up nicely stacked to choose from, in this type of search, advanced knowledge of a domain name was not required. Second, someone enters a specific name of a footwear brand, like, 'Moda Shoes', 'Quality footwear', 'Footsie,' 'Star' or 'Babe'. Thousands of citations pop up and further sub searches may eventually provide that sought after answer. Lastly, one enters Nike, Reebok, Adidas or Bata and the right site pops up instantly.

There is nothing wrong in any of the above search procedures, they all work, but the last one is the most desirable from the marketing and image expansion point of view.

Saving splits of seconds so that the potential customers do not get distracted by hundreds of other options are the hidden secrets of cyber name identity domination. The bigger question is why is this obvious hindrance to sales not corrected immediately? Who are the real beneficiaries of these lingering name disfunctionalities?

Now back to the argument. The owners with confusing and diluted origins resort to be discovered by random guesswork searching and prefer a search engine approach. This group often finds refuge under scrambled SEO options and prays for direct hits. This group always wants to justify that Google is a better way to randomly check then to type a specific URL in the browser. Without search engines and SEO, they would be literally doomed.

The facts remain despite such heavy costs of customer acquisition; dysfunctional names still constitute the largest majority.

ICANN's new gTLD program of global cyber name identities is neither for diluted, conflicting or dysfunctional names, nor for names that are not worthy of such expensive and exclusively undertakings. However, the spotlight has shifted to 'naming' and hardcore corporate nomenclature issues. In response a White Paper entitled "The World's Largest Branding Revolution Starts January 2012". Free downloadable PDF version is available at http://www.aarm.org

The big question of today is, at the end of any major branding if there isn't a distinctively exclusive and memorable name capable to withstand global scrutiny, why haven't such branding projects been erased yet? Is there any link between continuous higher burn rate on duplicated and generic type name brands which never make it to the top?

No matter what, Google search results, very soon, will appear like a full blown colorful magazine, the end user's richer experience will tickle the fancy with accompanying picturesque designs, photography; videos blended with textual columns and collage of social media to mesmerize and monitor all responses. A kind of cyber-immersion into 'GoogleMatrix' where a new world of highly affordable, measurable 'selective pay-per-click advertising' would emerge.

These digitally intertwined globally scalable and overhead expenditure free services would create further shock waves to current marketing and branding models. In conclusion, using the search engine as nets, rightfully, work wonders, like huge drift nets and bottom trawlers, they overflow the decks. But when you are looking for a special guppy fish distinctively called 'Nemo' the game gets sophisticated for all parties; the search engines, the searchers and the 'searchees'.

Google search will not replace domain names but the search results will become clear indicators or shining stars and lost souls creating a wider divide among winners and losers of the name identity game.
